What’s Up With That?: Ballerina Shoes and Dresses Everywhere
Posted on December 7th, 2009 by trainingheels under GeneralI’m not really sure what’s up with the Nutcracker look. I think it’s cute and all, but it could make a grown woman look like she was trying out for her childhood production of Gisele. So why all of the pink skirts and dresses and pink shoes?
What do you think, readers? Is it a welcome change from the hard, angled shoulderpads of 80s reduxe and fierce, spiked platforms?
Weigh in:
FOR IT: Ladies in their 20s and 30s rock a sweet, sexy ballerina pink look with a white faux fur stole on top for holiday parties.
OR
AGAINST IT: We should keep it in the closet with our ballerina flats from 2nd grade?
OR
KIND OF: It’s all about moderation. A sexy black dress with ballerina bow pumps. A black leotard with a pink skirt but not a whole pink dress.

its one thing to maintain a little girlish whimsy about you as you get older…but is another thing entirely to dress like a puff pastry from head to toe on a daily basis. i think that the femininity of pink frilly dresses or shoes with huge bows look great with dark or muted colors without infantilizing the wearer

it’s true. but do you think there’s a tactful or tasteful way to incorporate this trend, or would you skip it altogether?

I tend to find things that mix into my own existing style – and pink has just never been a part of that for me. For someone who is younger & experimenting with their style, a light, flirty dress or two like this is fine. But, it take a certain personality type to do this innocent type of look without looking either costumey or desperately trying to recapture youth. Like anything, I say, try it on an honestly appraise how it looks and how it makes you feel. You need to be comfortable in your clothes so that they are an extension of you. Any style that you ‘own’ emotionally will show in your carriage and confidence.
