You’re Such an Imelda!

”Imelda Marcos” has long since ceased to be merely the name of a former Filipina first lady with a seriously major shoe fetish. By now, it’s also become practically a synonym for anyone with a large shoe collection. There should be an Imelda Society, complete with little nametags shaped like shoes for their meetings. They could offer shoe collection management tips (care, storage, etc.) and support groups for those whose significant others don’t understand their shoe habits.
And every year, the annual meeting could be held at the Marikina Shoe Museum in Manila, Philippines where 800 of Imelda’s shoes are on display. Incidentally, it’s also the place with the most shoes on display in one place of anywhere in the world.
Just look at this shot from inside:

Is this a shoe lover’s paradise or what?

I am one of the shoe lovers. Although, i do not have as much shoes as the former first lady (Imelda). I can't wait to visit her shoe museum. Imelda's fashion taste as a whole, is as equally tasteful as the late Princess Diana, Jackie Kennedy O. and Audrey Hepburn. Her traditional and elegant look represented huge "BEAUTY" with such big impact to the country that is called small and poor. I have respect and big admiration to how she keep these shoes in good conditions. Amazing!

I feel the same way–old. No one really remembers her and her vanity. She was such a great joke; but then again, I have over 50 pairs of shoes. . . .

I really felt old when we did a reading in class that mentioned "Imelda" and none of my students had any idea who she was. There I was, just saying, "shoes… the philippines… shoes… you really don't have any idea who I'm talking about, do you…"
