Research is your best friend on this. Pictures should show quality stitching and consistent color dyeing. Poor materials are a bad sign. Visit a Saks or NM and check out the stitching on brands like Prada and Chanel. You generally don't find sloppy seams and glued soles on true designer shoes. Many of the counterfeiters use stolen photos for their sites and send a cheap replica to those who place orders. Some folks never receive their orders at all. There are a handful of legitimate sellers on ebay -but they are not cheap. Some of the larger stores such as Saks, Nieman Marcus, Barneys have seasonal sales where they have really good discounts. Better than Bluefly, but more than the counterfeiters. Joseph Shoes is another online boutique that has occasional clearance as old season stock must be sold. Get on emails for some of the stores like Saks & NM. They will alert you when they are having sales or gift card events. If you have one in your area, haunt high-end thrift stores like Buffalo Exchange for true finds.
