Default Sizing

Have you ever been confounded by shoe sizing? I know I have! That's partly due to the merchant's incorrectly translating European into American sizes. Back when I lived in Europe I used to be a 40; somehow, this turned into a 10 in the US; then, as it happens, my foot size changed a little bit, and I found that I really needed a 41 in most European-sized shoes. Well, with a few exceptions--I was 40 in some brands, 42 in others, and 40.5 or 41.5 in others. Don't even get me started with UK sizes!!! And then, I fit into a 9 or 9.5 in some US brands. Ugh.

I found this site--International Shoe Size Conversion Charts/Converter Tables for Shoes Sizes -- which attempts to explain these conundrums. The problems is, it's the "ideal" equivalence chart, which unfortunately varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. One just needs to find the correct fit in each brand--unfortunately, it's very hard to predict how they will fit, of course.

Anyone who's had sizing issues?
