Luke Donald Heading Into Mizuno MP-64 From MP-63 Irons
Along with Luke Donald’s help Mizuno MP-64 Irons have taken a page out of the old play book and went back to the super soft feel that Mizuno is know for. The golf clubs for sale are the latest grain flow forged irons in the Mizuno range developed with the input of Mizuno tour professionals including Luke Donald who put them straight into bag.
Luke Donald, who never switches irons, moved to these from his Mizuno MP-59 Irons within a week. That should be a good indicator of how well these perform. “We really built this golf club for Luke Donald,” Couch said. “This is Luke’s iron.” The Mizuno MP-64 is the best feeling "player's cavity" design that Mizuno has engineered. The MP-64, nicknamed the “Luke Donald iron,” has a sole that is beveled and softened for accurate turf contact without digging. It has a full-diamond muscle back within a shallow-back cavity.
A quest for more feedback led the MP-64 to a thicker, bulging muscle pad behind a wider portion of the clubface. The thicker portion produces the smoother feel that Mizuno’s tour staff recognised from previous muscleback irons. The smoother look and feel of the MP-64 is complemented by a softer edged, more playable sole shape. While Mizuno’s overall tour grind is maintained, less defined edges produce more consistent turf interaction and distance control.
Mizuno has combined the peripheral weighting from the MP-62 irons with the diamond back cavity of the Mizuno MP-63 Irons and we think this works well. With numerous regional and national fitting centers it's essential to get custom fitted to get the best out of them. Like all MP irons the stock shafts are steel, and many steel and graphite shaft options are available. In contrast to the MP-H4, the MP-64 is just what golfers might expect from Mizuno: forged irons created to please highly skilled golfers.
They just feel amazing and the flight is fantastic with a tight dispersion. These can be combined with the new H4 irons as a long iron replacements if you struggle with the long irons, which give extra forgiveness and higher launch. Mizuno touts the feel of the Mizuno MP-64 Irons, citing the company's "Harmonic Impact Technology" to control vibration at impact. The irons come in a double-nickel chrome finish that includes a 3D forged Mizuno Runbird logo.
