Post veggie shoes

As I was sitting on the couch last night watching the 2 hour premiere of Americas Next Top Model, Cycle 8 (a show that gets worse and worse, but I still faithfully watch for the pleasure of seeing the crazy, whacky photoshoots and outfits the girls go through), I was inspired to post. By what, might you ask? Well, the photoshoot had each girl depicting some political statement (pro-choice/pro-life, pro-fur/anti-fur, vegan/meat-eater, etc.), and I started thinking about vegan footwear.

Now, me, Im a bit of a hypocrite, because the idea of wearing fur makes me highly uneasy, but Ill wear sheepskin and eat meat with no problem whatsoever. But for those trying to live the true vegan lifestyle, theres no animal products at all. No wool sweaters, no honey, and certainly no leather. And when it comes to footwear, that limits your choices pretty severely unless youre ok wearing canvas sneakers all the time. But there are a few places to find pretty stylish vegan shoes. Natalie Portman does it, and manages to look adorable, like this outfit from the Vanity Fair Oscar party the other night.

And you can do it, too.

Zappos has a whole section devoted to vegetarian shoes that includes these fun summery Baja sandals with the very trendy clear lucite heel. Plus, theyre a very wallet-friendly $46.

Theres a great company called Moo Shoes that makes a whole line of vegan products (clothing, shoes, accessories, gifts, etc.) like these Bloom pumps ($109 )

and this adorable Kathy dorsay on sale for only $68 (if youre a US size 5-7).

And look at this Estrella faux suede low heel. A mere $85!

Or this funky Dakota boot with little fleck of red peeking out from the black. It can be yours for $110.

Its nice to know that there are some stylish options for those among us who dont want to wear animal products, because nobody wants to be stuck with clunky vinyl platforms and canvas sneakers as their only two shoe options.
