I LOVED the Chanel gun heel shoes that Madonna wore recently and was so excited to find a great knock-off available already (the Lagerfeld version, which is expected to retail for about $2,000 isn't going to be out until next year). Check 'em out:

I have a link around here somewhere for custom brass knuckle platform heels at about $440 & made to order. Pleaser or Ellie also has a brass-knuckle styles oxford around for $50-$80 depending on where you find them.

Pardon me if I get long-winded.
Don't forget, I do spend a lot of time hunting down fresh, unique or shocking items in the hopes of getting good material for the occasional shoeblog article. ![]() I do think that unique heels are fun and edgy - but these ones are primarily clubwear/stagewear & a bit young for me personally to get any real use out of - and I can't rarely justify 'display only' purchases. (Plus, the custom shoe is stripper-platform high & definitely walks the line of very pricey lingerie. Lingerie that would likely cause a broken ankle. Ouch.) Deeply Psychological? I like to think I'm pretty straightforward, but the phrase 'You have too many thoughts' has jokingly come from my husband's lips, so who knows. Of course, we are looking at shoes, and there is a long history of eroticism being tied in with footwear, so there are probably always at least some sub-conscious issues on what we react to - in this case, I think that the gun or brass-knuckle heel are intentionally and inherently confrontational while still trying to keep the fun & sex appeal of the heel a primary focus. And I also ran into brass-knuckled handled purses by Akedemiks overat Ross not too long ago (didn't buy it - I'm a shoulder bag gal). Maybe I spend too much time popping into Hot Topic after all. One of these day's I'll consider myself too old to skirt the goth-industrial fashion line, but I'm not there yet. Interestingly, while a hardcore romanti-goth or steampunk could outfit themselves head to toe from my closet, I never wear enough pieces together to be assumed as 'in the scene'. Anyway, this is the made-to-order stripperlicious clubwear link: Custom Stilettos Brass Knuckle Heels KNUCKLED ![]() And, surprise, it's modeled with the whole Marilyn Monroe/Betty Paige look. The Ellie shoes are part of their costume line (not surprisingly - they are a huge supplier of Halloween costume shoe in addition lingerie/sexy/fetish footwear). This is the one that I actually liked when it was over at the Hot Topic. I think it's more 1940-s Hollywood and less modern stripperlicious. Not nearly as club-centric, I can see these peeking out from under a high-waisted wide-legged hollywood cut women's trouser to add a little bit of playfulness & sass to an otherwise current fashion. ![]() |

I have always (like many women, especially) likes shoes. But it was only after I had kids & my feet grew that I really got addicted. The growth of the internet shoe retailers & sites like style.com, NYmag.com & Vogue have allowed more people like me who would never have encountered a high-end shoe to see what is coming off the runways.
So, there are plenty of shoes that I have, historically, not encountered & my self-education is continuing on the whole shoe front. It is funny to me how many shoes this last year have been the other way - Designer 'duplicates' of some very Fetish footwear. It's only fitting to see some styles (Strappy Gladiator Boots, Heel-less Shoes, etc) go from the Exotic/Stripper market, to the runway, back to the Sexy/Club market. I will have to look around my bookmarks. I encountered a great article several months ago regarding trademark & fashion. It really had some wonderful insights on why trademark & trade dress are so tricky to protect & why the fashion industry is actually driven to new fashion combinations because of the existence of knock-offs & designer inspired styles. Back to the Ellie shoes, I have managed to keep up my willpower so far. I do love those oxford spectators but am hoping to wait a couple of months before picking them up - I'm trying to stay responsible & on-budget. But I am a sucker for that style anyway. Back to the stripper/club shoes mentioned earlier - I was jonesing for a high-heeled women's oxford about 5 years ago & at that time, Pleaser was the only brand carrying anything in that style; now, you can't go to a shoe dept without running into 10 variations on the theme. Needless to say, I now have some lower oxford heels than that original 5 inch Pleaser shoe that I got when it was the only game in town. |
