Your first designer shoe purchase?
Hi
New here and inspired by the poster who detailed her first Manolos:
Does anyone else want to share their 'first time'?
My first pair also happened to be Manolos - predating the sex and the city craze - even (I think - I didn't find SATC until 2001).
I have a thing for blue roses (thus the screen name). I was shopping with my aunt who has killer taste, we were in the shoe dept at Neimans and there they were - a pair of Manolo slides white with the most gorgeous blue roses on them. It was shoe love. My aunt gave me some money toward them - bless her heart - & I blew my mad money for the month --- a shoe diva was born. I still have them tucked away and wear them on special occasions.

Re: Your first designer shoe purchase?
If you like blue roses, you will like my 1st 'is it really worth it to spend $$ on shoes' crush where I got really got serious about shoes (about 3-4 years ago). Remember not so long ago when $500 was still a lot for a shoe? Wen $200 was still intro-or-sale luxury & not Steve Madden everyday prices....lol/sigh.
Anyway, these shoes...Donald J Pliner 'Lila' in rose-embossed leather or blue-rose embroidered white canvas....So pretty, I think of them as "Cinderella shoes" since they make me think of whimsical Disney animated heroine's costumes.
Originally about $275, these were about $175 more than I'd ever paid for any shoes -even more if I were talking about a non-boot. BTW, that has since changed - both with my shoe-appreciation & price inflation...but that is another rant :P
So, I finally buckled & bought them from endless after much agonizing...and was even more thrilled when I ran into them 14 days later at Amazon for $115 & was able to get a no-hassle price adjustment on the blue pair!!!!
It was a bargain shopping rush.
Nowadays I am on a budget. But, in about a year when we are mortgage-only, I will be well off enough to not wince at a once-yearly spendy (over $500) splurge. My, how our tolerances change?
Anyway, here they are. I baby them in their box & shoe-bag & want them to last a long time. Of course, my biggest indulgence so far were Prada slide & Maryjane about 18 months ago...and their sale price which is still the most I've paid on a shoe now seems like a bargain since those types of under $500 sales prices are becoming very rare indeed. (I panicked when I never saw the Pradas online anywhere for actual sale, until they showed up on Bluefly & I knew I was lost & would buckle & pay their price to own them)
So, Pliners & Pradas....definitely some of my most glass-display worthy pairs:[IMG]http://www.shoeblog.com/forums/attachments/shoes

And just throwing in the Betsey Johnsons since they were one of the shoes that launched me into obsessively looking for more pretties.

Re: Your first designer shoe purchase?
I love this - I'm still new to shoe love but if I had my way I could fill a wardrobe by Christmas.
The ones that started it all for me, the first pair I bought. Ah Manolo. I bought them the day after I split from my partner of 4 years, it was the best day of my life. I just slipped them on and cleaned the house wearing them, I felt like a queen!
And look at the picture I took, posed and everything! I still love them so!
Re: Your first designer shoe purchase?
My first pair were some Miu Miu slingbacks. Aw, I think I still have them although I haven't worn them in ages.
I was so proud of them and their dustbag. It was such a magic day :)
