This Melissa line is telling us there is some anti-bacterial something in these shoes, so they won't smell bad or make your feet itch. Secondly, they are supposed to be made from recycled material. Like most things that are "green" they are too expensive and not cute. If I want to buy recycled materials, I will buy from a vintage store.
