Galligator: It's very refreshing to see the 'insights' of your designer shoe buying mind. i often wondered if women who are into designer shoes will buy a shoe on sale because of the name, even if the don't really like the shoe. I guess the converse could be applied, if a woman would buy a non-designer shoe just based on the style, and disregarding cost. My es-gf is really into the designers, but sometimes I wondered if it really was the name she was after, or if she really had some connection to the style or design.

Some people (not just women) will buy a 'name' just because it's on sale. It's probably the 'Rush' of the purchase & the idea of 'getting a great deal'. I am trying to avoid that because it's easy to wind up with a house full of items that were a great price but never actually get used. People love to get a deal & feel like they've 'beat the system' somehow. It is an easy trap to fall into. For me, if I see something on sale that I have been eyeing for months, I will probably purchase it if my budget allows. But, if it is strictly impulse due to a sale price, I will really want it to fit, be exceptional. If I feel that I will really regret walking away from the price, that is a definite consideration in terms of value. But, if I love it and don't have it in my budget, I am amazed at how many similar styles come around in another 6 months, 2 years, etc. Plus, with ebay & other auction sites, the aftermarket that exists today can reward the dedicated shopper hunting an elusive past style.
As for designer style - the reasons women like shoes, be they high-end or otherwise vary from comfort to style to lifestyle, so that is a very individual thing. |

Has anyone bought louboutin shoes on discount sites, such as prestomart.com and yitingbuy.com? The latter site claims that these shoes are wholesale, but since both sites sell louboutins for under $200, I have a feeling that they may be fake. Is there really such a thing as "discounted" shoes, or is my best bet waiting for sales in legit stores/sites? I noticed that Barney's online has pretty good deals.

It really is better to get shoes from a reputable seller. Many sites are now selling counterfeits & even $20 is overpriced for that in my mind. If this year is anything like last year, there will be great sales on fall merchandise in spring & summer (May-June). I saw Legit CL slides at Joseph's online stores for about $250. You can also get occasional steals from Barneys - but their online stock is often incorrect, so there's a chance an order will be cancelled by email after ordering - but some folks do get lucky on their sales, so it may be worth ordering & crossing your fingers. You can also try some Nordstroms (Seattle Flag store) during the 1/2 yearly sale to see if there are any discounts to be had. And, there is always Bluefly - it's rare to find a CL for under $200 there, but is does happen occasionally. Also, many websites offer so-called 'designer' shoes & handbags but will state AAA quality somewhere on their website. This is code for 'high quality fake' & is a big warning flag. Good luck. If you are going to pay $200-$1000 for a shoe, it should be the real thing. KWIM. |

I get very suspicious. The lowest I've seen legit CL on sale for is $250 and 1 mis-marked pair at bluefly once for $200. Other than that, Saks had their 70% off shoes back in the winter & even though most CL's were supposedly exempt, things were so crazy & confusing for the Sales assistiants, many people still got a 70% deal off current styles. I wouldn't trust it from some unknown site. There's lots of counterfeiters and bait-n-switch pictures on websites these days.
If you are willing to take a change at spending $200 on a fake, that is your own ethical/moral etc choice. But to me, the risk is pretty high for an item that is probably fake & not worth $10. Also, folks selling fakes tend to be linked to criminal orginizations and sometimes worse, so I'd just rather not play in that arena, KWIM? |
