How can you tell the fake ones??? I checked out these websites, and they have boxes and sleeper bags, various styles. So how can we know which is fake and which is real other than buying form a department store? Are there clues in the labeling, or any other way of knowing?

This is a great thread!
Thankyou to all who have posted I am very close to buying my very first pair og Christian Louboutin's,the styles are all so sexy with the double platforms, I have been looking for a deal on the new double platforms, however they are so new that I cannot find them on sale yet, (why pay retail in a wholesale world)....size availability , that is why. I still want a deal though. I have seen the Fake Louboutins on ebay and thought there was just something not right about them and now my suspecions are justified. Thanks all, Peeptoe |

Also, read the descriptions and the FAQ's. Sometimes there are clues (aside from grammatical/spelling issues). Many counterfeit sites ship from asia or Australia (many, though not all, auction 'Australia' listing are actually shipped from Singapore, etc). Look for anything saying 'High Quality' 'Replica', A+ AA+ AAA, etc. Be cautious it the word "authentic" is misspelled or abbreviated - that is often a fake designator. These things are codewords for fakes. Remember, any hot, impossible-to-find shoe will usually be worth the same ore more than retail, not less. Unless a style is older, less popular, or used, such prices on a genuine designer shoe are rare. Also, make sure that if you do take a chance on a site offering Louboutins for less than current retail that you use AmEx, MC, Visa & not a debit or account-linked system. Using a credit card will help insulate you against fraud. Just make sure you understand the time limits on your chargeback options so that you don't miss the opportunity to file a chargeback claim if the seller has misrepresented their items or services.

Research is your best friend on this. Pictures should show quality stitching and consistent color dyeing. Poor materials are a bad sign. Visit a Saks or NM and check out the stitching on brands like Prada and Chanel. You generally don't find sloppy seams and glued soles on true designer shoes. Many of the counterfeiters use stolen photos for their sites and send a cheap replica to those who place orders. Some folks never receive their orders at all. There are a handful of legitimate sellers on ebay -but they are not cheap. Some of the larger stores such as Saks, Nieman Marcus, Barneys have seasonal sales where they have really good discounts. Better than Bluefly, but more than the counterfeiters. Joseph Shoes is another online boutique that has occasional clearance as old season stock must be sold. Get on emails for some of the stores like Saks & NM. They will alert you when they are having sales or gift card events. If you have one in your area, haunt high-end thrift stores like Buffalo Exchange for true finds.

If you are looking for CL shoes, then save your money and get them at a reputable place. If you want to spend $200 on a designer, then find Zanotti's or Missoni's on sale. You will be happier in the long run. CL isn't the only designer in town.
