Shoe odor is caused by bacteria, which thrives of warmth and moisture. Therefore it is important to make your shoes an inhospitable place for the bacteria to develop.

With this in mind, here are a couple of tips for you:

Make sure you dry your feet thoroughly after showering, before you put your shoes on;

If you suffer from sweety feet (which I'm guessin will be as a result of the basketball) then spray the bottom of your feet with anti-perspirant to keep them dry and layer the inner soles of your shoe with talcum powder which will help in absorbing any excessive moisture;

Wear thick cotton socks, this will absorb any sweet and the cotton material allows your skin to breathe.

Hope this helps.

I also recommend baking soda to get rid of odors, odor-eater inserts, always wear socks in shoes where your feet might get sweaty. You can also try gold-bond foot powders as well.
