How do you tie ankle-wrap shoes to keep it from falling? Everytime I tie it, it would fall or untie after 5minutes of walking. It really bothers me... whats your suggestion? tips? tricks?

I have 2 ankle-wrap shoes: 1 is made of rope-like material (got it from Ninewest) and the other shoe has a tie made of silk.
I guess I'm clueless when it comes to tying it around my leg... I like to wrap it around my leg like how old Roman people did (criss-cross). Any suggestions how to make it stay put? |

Aside from a problem with the materials, which you may have, and which may not be correctable (they're just too slippery), you may have a problem with the knot. If so, Ian's shoelace website gives you about a trillion ways to tie your shoelaces (let's pretend he's talking about ankle straps for a moment), including a convenient way to prevent that knot from coming undone. Ok, maybe a little less than a trillion, but you get my point. I don't think the issue is your placement of the ties--criss-cross or otherwise, though you do need to make sure the ties are snug-yet-comfy--but in the 1) material; 2) knot. The silk ones sound particularly troublesome, and for those, if all else fails, I would recommend a hidden, teeny-tiny safety pin (if the ties are bulky enough) to secure the knot. Otherwise, I hope Ian has some tips for you!

If you just want to tie them around your ankles, and they're coming undone, then yes, I'd suggest looking up some good knots. Personally, I use your basic square knot, which seems to work even for my grosgrain ties.
If you're looking to tie the laces criss-crossing all the way up your calves, it's a bit trickier. I find two things help. 1. try to criss-cross the laces all the way up, so that when you tie them, the knot ends up being above the large part of your calf. 2. when the laces are at the back of your leg, twist them (like a twist-tie on a loaf of bread or garbage bag) before bringing the laces around to the front of your leg again. Hope this helps.
