Question The Classic Black Leather Frye CAMPUS

I'd really like to purchase a pair of Black leather Frye Campus boots, but the average price for a pair is a bout $200-$250. I really cannot afford that. I'm wondering if anyone knows what brand makes a similar boot for a cheaper price? If so please do tell. I've tried ebay, different hobo shoes websites to no avail.

Thanks

That's a really really tough one. The Frye Campus style is a very unique style--an inimitable classic, if you will. I have not been able to locate anything similar--which is, without embellishments, square toe, pull-on, black, chunky heel. I did find the boot for $99 at Sierra Trading Post--but in off-white (pebble).

Your options as I see them are the following:
1) Wait for the sales. A tough call, given that these classics are in demand. It will take patience and time, but if you scour the shops as well as eBay, you might get lucky. You never know!
2) Save patiently for a few months (no more lattes! and pay full price (I know, I know). But at least you'll be getting what you really, truly want.
3) Browse the shops and the internets for a similar style you like and which is more affordable. I didn't dare suggest any alternatives for now simply because I didn't find anything that suggests the classic lines of the Campus boot--though I did find plenty of Western style black boots. See what your tolerance limit is!

I'm sorry I can't be of more help right now--rarely do I concede defeat for a shoe dilemma...

Hello Shoe Sense

Thank you so much for your reply. it is much appreciated.
I couldn't help but chuckle at your suggestions, only because they are true in being my only options right now and while uh patience is...well lets just say I need a bit more of that in my life.

In any case you are right...I do want the classic original so I think I will opt to go with #2 on your list of suggestions. But I just have to say that given to how trends often times spark, good and not so good knock offs...I'm just baffled at the fact that the Frye Campus has lasted so long without a cheap copy. I mean there's the Frye motorcyle, the Durango Motorcyle and the Harley Davidson motorcycle boot just to mention a few.

How do they do it?

Thanks Again

You're very welcome! And yes, I know--I don't know how they do it That kind of boot requires some workmanship and some serious leather, and I'm guessing it would end up being too costly for a 'cheap' replica. It wouldn't be a replica without all that wholesome chunkiness, no?

During my usual shoe website surfing, I came across the Frye Campus on sale for $107-$5=$102 at Endless.com. There appears to be decent sizing options but unfortunately, they only have banana and saddle colors available.

Don't know if that helps in your search, my thought I'd throw it out there.

Frye is a successful company. However, the Frye Campus has been around since the 1970's. I think the yellow boot is called the Banana Boot. You might try Acme or Double H boots. I wanted to get a Frye, but at 200-250 is out of my price range. So I searched the Internet and found a pair of Double H boots unused for 50$ + shipping.
