Hm. No easy answer. 3/4 of an inch sounds like a lot--but on the other hand, what really matters is if they fall off your feet or not. I haven't heard of a particular rule regarding how far one's toe should be from the end of the shoe--but as a rule of thumb, how comfortable are you in them? When you walk in them, do you have the tendency to trip? Do they fall off your feet? And very importantly: do they look good on you? If you think that extra space looks goofy, and if they're not comfortable, then it's probably not the right fit.

I agree with Shoesense. I've tried on some peeptoes that had a lot of extra space at the toe for no good reason (for instance if the sole of the shoe was at all pointed) but in general I like them to fit as I imagine my foot fits in all my shoes, which is to say that there isn't any extra space at the toes. But if they don't slide off and they look good, I'd say they fit!
Generally, the rule of thumb is just that... you want to have a thumb's width between the end of your toe and the end of the shoe. You want to have plenty of room to wiggle your toes without hitting the end of the shoe. Sure, this is more applicable with closed-toe shoes, but it's a good guideline to go by. And makes you realize how often we buy our shoes too small, huh?
