Luke Donald has confirmed he’s put Mizuno’s brand new Mizuno MP-64 Irons in the bag at The Barclays this week.

Since missing the cut at the US Open in June, the Englishman has recorded two top-tens in his last three events and he’s now ready to strike while the iron is hot. Writing on his Twitter feed, Donald said: “Been testing Mizuno’s newest irons, the MP64s, and I like them so much am putting them in the bag this week.”

Although orders for the Diamond Muscle MP-64 irons aren’t being shipped until September 3, the new heads have landed at Mizuno’s European custom fitting line in Scotland. The new stock also includes cheap Mizuno MP-69 Irons replacements and MP-T4 wedges, as well as the California Del Mar Putter that are available next month.

Mizuno claims that with the shallowest cavity, the MP-64 - designed for the professional player - offers more forgiveness than a traditional blade with Mizuno’s R&D team focussed on producing soft, yet solid feel.

A quest for more feedback led the MP-64 to a thicker, bulging muscle pad behind a wider portion of the clubface. “We flipped the design process on the MP-64,” said Mizuno’s Chris Voshall.

“Maximising feel became the absolute priority - with forgiveness added afterwards. With other more forgiving ‘player’ irons in our line like the Mizuno MX-300 Irons and Mizuno MP-59 Irons for sale, we were free to really chase impact sensations.” “Everything about the MP-64 iron is soft, from the muscle definition, the sole contours and ultimately the feel.”
