Default Why do you love shoes?

In the spirit of this article, I thought it would be fun to create a thread in which we can expound liberally on why we love the shoes.

I do love my shoes because they always fit--unlike my clothes. Meaning, I don't need to change sizes, and no matter how bloated I feel or what kind of monthly fluctuations my body goes through, the shoe will always fit. (If it's well chosen, of course, but that's another story). And I will have them well into my old age.

I also love shoes because a well-made, pretty shoe gives me an overall feeling of well-being that no item of clothing could match. If the feet are comfortable, so is the body and the mind (didn't Donald J. Pliner say that?)

Also, well-chosen shoes can brighten any wardrobe, and make whatever you are wearing look special, even if it's just a pair of jeans and a T-shirt. In other words, shoes make or break an outfit. No matter how well put together your clothes are, the wrong shoes will totally ruin the ensemble.

But of course, these are all rationalizations. There is an irrational component to my love of shoes, which cannot be explained any better than you can explain why you fall in love with a certain person. Yeah, yeah, yeah, he/she is good-looking, funny, kind, generous, loving, etc. etc. etc. But if so, why don't dozens of other people fall in love with him/her, too? The truth is, it's chemistry, it's destiny, it's predisposition, it's genetics, it's a je ne sais quoi. I'm just one of those people who loves shoes and feels passionately about them, and that's that.

How about you?

My shoe love comes from many places, really. First off, it's the love of fashion. I pay attention to clothing and shoes with pretty equal determination. And that feeling of having an outfit come together, capped off with the perfect shoes... well, it's like a little non-chemical high right there.

I do have to say, though, that my shoe fanaticism has been heightened by two things:

a) working in a shoe store when I was younger that really took the time to educate both the employees and customers about how proper shoes should fit and feel. I've never thought about shoes the same way again. A little knowledge goes a long way.

b) living in New York City, where I can see and have access to almost any brand and style in any price range I can afford. Dangerous!

Hi shoesense.

You wrote it on the point. I completely agree with you.
Maybe one add: I love all the stories behind every shoe I bought. The memories of foreign cities where they came from, the feelings from some dates I had with them and sometimes the savings they made me forget to get this one wonderful pair ...

I love shoes, mostly high heels, because I feel completely different when I put them on. I am normaly a reserved, low key kinda girl but when I put a pair of stilettos on, I feel sexy, flirty and confident. I feel like I own the streets I'm walking on. I also love shoes because they are pretty and like someone said before, I can wear shoes to match my mood. Unlike most people, my shoe size does fluctuate with weight gain and loss though.
