Default Sizing

Have you ever been confounded by shoe sizing? I know I have! That's partly due to the merchant's incorrectly translating European into American sizes. Back when I lived in Europe I used to be a 40; somehow, this turned into a 10 in the US; then, as it happens, my foot size changed a little bit, and I found that I really needed a 41 in most European-sized shoes. Well, with a few exceptions--I was 40 in some brands, 42 in others, and 40.5 or 41.5 in others. Don't even get me started with UK sizes!!! And then, I fit into a 9 or 9.5 in some US brands. Ugh.

I found this site--International Shoe Size Conversion Charts/Converter Tables for Shoes Sizes -- which attempts to explain these conundrums. The problems is, it's the "ideal" equivalence chart, which unfortunately varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. One just needs to find the correct fit in each brand--unfortunately, it's very hard to predict how they will fit, of course.

Anyone who's had sizing issues?

I, too, have run into this problem. To begin with, my foot is probably about an American 8.25, so I'm always starting with the "8 or 8.5" conundrum. But on top of that, the size conversions and particular sizing of different manufacturers often brings on a difficult choice. At the moment I have shoes in my collection that range from an American 6.5 (yes, they ran THAT large) to a 9.5.

It's why I often find myself ordering two pairs of the same shoe when I shop online (particularly when return shipping is free)... one of them is likely to be the right size, and the other can be sent back.

I have this problem ALL the time! Here in the UK, they can't make up their minds on whether they are gonna use UK sizing or European Sizing so you get a mixture of both. From experience, I am a UK 5/5.5 and European 38/38.5. Somehow that translates into an American 6/6.5 which I am NOT. I am an american 7/7.5.

I always wondered how they came up with such inaccurate conversions! Last week, I ordered a pair of shoes from the US that claimed to be a US 7.5 so I assumed the would fit. I have now looked at the detailed explanation and they are actually a 37.5 European so they will not fit! I'm ****ed off to say the least. Maybe it's time they reevaluated those askew conversions?
