Exclamation HELP! What material is this?

I have some platform shoes from Brazil which are the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned. I would like to know if anybody knows the material that is sometimes used to make high heels from Brazil. It looks like wood but it does not weigh enough to be wood and it sounds like almost foamy when I walk. The brand of the shoe is 'Anna Esther' and I've also seen another Brazilian brand 'Passarela' with a similar material.

Does it say inside the shoe what type of materials it's made from? If they're made from man-made materials, it could be a lot of things.

hmmm...can you take a pic of the shoes, they sound lovely and maybe we'll be able to tell from the texture what kind of material it is

There is a high-density foam material that is used for the heels and platforms of shoes at a wide range of price levels. I found out the hard way, by breaking the heel (!) on a Max Azria wedge. The material itself is white, but I believe it can be colored in the formation process, or of course surfaced with anything one wants, from painted faux wood to real leather (like my doomed Max Az's). The signature feel of it is its light weight, and a very slight shock-absorbing sense when walking on it (which encouraged me to walk too fast and break the heel in the first place!).
