With a nod to the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup, the European Tour will conclude its season next year with a Final Series' that will cover the last four events on the schedule.
Although not structured like the FedEx Cup, the Final Series will try to provide some drama for the European Tour's Race to Dubai money title.
It will require those hoping to win the Race to Dubai with their taylormade burner 2.0 irons to play in at least two of the three events preceding the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. If a player competes in all three, he receives a 20 percent bonus in points.
The first three events are the BMW Masters, the WGC-HSBC Champions and the inaugural Turkish Open. They will feature 78-player fields, with the top 60 on the money list advancing won with their fabulous burner 2.0 irons to the season-ender in Dubai.
The HSBC Champions in China is a World Golf Championship event that for the first time will also be an official event on the PGA Tour. The four European Tour events will be played in 2013 at the same time the PGA Tour is beginning its 2013-14 season.
This year, Rory McIlroy had the Race to Dubai wrapped up before the season-ending event, which he won on Sunday. The top 10 finishers in the Race to Dubai received bonus money, with McIlroy getting an extra $1 million. He got $3 million for finishing second to Brandt Snedeker in the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup.
