We're all junkies here! Some folks collect little knick-knacks, some guys spend $$$ on cars, fishing, shooting - our thing is shoes. No harm, no foul.

"I keep my shoes in their boxes, wipe down the soles after I wear them & rotate them so that no one pair gets excessive use (except for my favorite boots and kicky skechers) "

I was given those clear storage boxes that were reviewed earlier, Diva Emporium.com was the site. I love them. The one thing that does make me cringe is when I replace my shoes they sometimes rub against a tab on the bottom. This tab allows the boxes to lock together so I can stack them overhead, and not have them all fall on my head when reaching for a specific shoe box.

The reason I love the boxes is that they are semi clear, so I know which shoe I am after and the locking together thing. I went to order some on my own and the shipping was more than the box itself because Diva Emporium is in AU. I went with another company and the boxes are similar, but they don't lock together so I am not as happy with them. I store those on bottom shelves.

This is a little OCD but (before these boxes) I took digital photos of my shoes, printed them on shipping labels and stuck them onto the shoe box. I know, I know. I don't even have that many shoes. Anyways the boxes work great.

These are some great closets and shoe collections. I love the idea of the shoe picture on the boxes. I just bought a house and we are doing some minor remodeling. It has walk in closets, but they are not oversized at all. I am trying to figure out the best way to organize my shoes and my future wife's shoes in a manner that will easily keep them from getting cluttered, keep them protected, and will look nice keeping in mind the limited space. We don't have a huge number of shoes, but I want to allow room for growth! I am a bit of a handy-man, so building something would not be a problem. I'm just not sure what the best method would be. Any suggestions?

Each age is a different stage. I built my house 22 years ago. the one thing I have that i never regretted is adjustable shelves. I have 7 shelves, each shelf can put 3 shoe boxes across. I have adjusted them several times over the years to accomodate my different needs.

I have another set of fixed shelves that are overhead 7 feet, 8 1/2 feet and 9 feet high. This is where my formal and out of season shoes and clothing go. I like having the translucent shoe boxes to see what I am looking at. I don't have THAT many shoes. My needs are fairly minimal, and I have the discipline to weed shoes out.

I love the idea of having the 2 extra kids bedrooms where one could be converted into a walk-in after they are grown. But that's just me looking at the future.

Really, it all depends on the size of your house & lot. I am on almost 2 acres, so adding onto our house if we wanted a 2nd level, workshop, etc is only limited by time.

The closet I have now was actually part of a past MB expansion. When they enlarged the bed area, they put in a false-wall behind the master bed area allowing for a walk-through closet. If you have enough space, this could be done in any large room or garage area. Just keep in mind that any built-ins to a garage will have to be insulated to protect against excessive moisture issues.

Thank you for the input. I like the adjustable shelves idea, but I'm not sure how the space is going to work to keep the closet useful. While we are doing some updating to the house, I don't want to get into an extensive remodeling project such as adding on or sectioning off part of a room right now - for money or time. Maybe in the future. I just like to keep things organized and handy. I will let you know what we decide!

ShoeDiva, I think I have your boxes. I love them. The part I like the most is that they link together.
