One of my most comfortable pairs of shoes is a platform demi-wedge. It's just the perfect fit & it makes all difference. Of course, I have a few other pairs that are only good for an hour before I want to go barefoot.

One of the reasons YSL's Tribute and Trib 2 are so popular is because they have a low heel to platform ratio. I think it comes to something like a 2 inch heel, making them reasonably comfortable. I believe that is why we see Victoria Beckham wear them so often. I would imagine her feet give her problem upon problems.

Question Re: Im In Love With Platforms

Balance was much tougher on a carpeted surface (although hardwood was fine).
galligator raises a question I've always had about platform/heel wearers in general - How do you get balance?! I love the way heels look, and wish I could wear them often but I usually have two problems. #1, it's usually hard to find size 5 or size 4.5 shoes that are cute. #2, once I have a pair that fits, I can only stand to wear them for short periods of time and I suspect that I don't walk as sexy as I feel.

Does anyone have tips about balance, pain reduction, or developing a good strut in platforms (or other heels)??

That's funny, I was just commenting on another thread how my mind has done a 180 with regards to ankle boots. I used to detest them, but ever since the peep toe ankle boots have come into the scene several seasons ago, I just LOVE them. Reason I mention that, is that I have similar views with platforms. To me, the 70's were a dark age as far as shoe design is concerned. (Not that I was alive then, mind you!! ;-) ) However the recent 'hidden' platforms are really quite lovely. I don't like exaggerated or 'chunky' platforms, so the hidden platforms are a real blessing.

I don't understand the trouble in walking in platforms though, they're MUCH easier than walking in pumps. The platform actually reduces the height of the heel, so it should make it easier to walk, not harder.

Usually I don't have trouble walking in platforms. Often it is easier because the slope(angle) of the rise is lower than many standard shoes and is therefore less tiring to wear. But, the pair I have that is 1.5 inches is different for some reason. That shoe (I am 5-3) raises my center of gravity 7 inches. I am not only on heels, but my visual perspective walking around is shifted enough to be physically and mentally disorienting. For most platforms, a couple of minutes are enough to adjust to their particular balance. But this one particular pair almost made me dizzy because the whole set of visual messages I receive are shifted. It takes a lot longer for me to adjust, but just with this one pair. It would probably be different if I were to wear extreme heels more often. Oh well.
