Friday Shoe History Corner: French Chic from the 1880s

Posted by shoesense in Boots, Friday Shoe History Corner

From the  Bata Shoe Museum: “The famous shoemaker Jean-Louis François Pinet (1817-1897) created this intricately embroidered boot. Part of his fame rested on the “Pinet” heels he designed; a somewhat thinner and less splayed version of the popular “Louis” heel. His beautifully constructed and elaborately decorated boots peeked out from under the skirts of the best-dressed women in the Western world.”

Marc on my mind - Part 2

Posted by galligator in Fall 2008 Shoes, Flats, Marc Jacobs Shoes, Marc Jacobs Shoes, Piperlime, Shoes.com, Slingbacks, Spring 2008 shoes, Zappos

Let’s talk about the “Mouse” shoe. The leather ‘whisker’ originating the ‘mouse’ designation:

mbmj classic mouse

Available in Brown or Blue stamped leather ($237) and Cracked metallic bronze (222.50) at Net-a-porter.

Mark Jacobs updated it playfully last fall with full mousy features, including 3-dimensional ears.

Available in a basic flat style at Zappos ($243.46) or Shopbop ($325); or in a slingback style, at Net-a-porter ($227.50).

Now, Mr. Jacobs has taken the mouse & flattened it again; this time with the look of  ‘drawn on’ stitching which creates a cute illusion of 3-dimensional ears and tail:

Available for $250 at Shoes.com, Piperlime, and Shopbop, among others.

And, just when I thought that was enough variety for any shopper, along comes the Jelly Mouse:

My, Oh my! Almost speechless here.

Guess What. I’m Drooling Over Shoes.

Posted by jitterbugbaby in Prada & MiuMiu Shoes, Tod's Shoes

Self-explanatory and pretty obvious, right?

The problem (well, some might say it’s not really a PROBLEM per se) is that yesterday, while trolling through Bluefly to look up the Project Runway 5.1 shoes, I stumbled across two pairs that I’m seriously lusting over.

One is this gold and black Prada ankle cuff sandal.

Oh, how I love that shoe!  Really, that whole line, because I covet the hybrid sandal/boots from a few months back just as much.

And the other Bluefly baby I’m all a-lust after is the (notably more practical) Tod’s Holliday Zip flat in pewter.

See… I told you I’m a sucker for those “athleisure” shoes that have a dressed up and a casual side all in one.

Is this really a good idea, ladies?

Posted by shoesense in General

You may have seen this on the nets or various morning shoes, pardon me, shows:

I’m not talking about the adorable baby, of course not. I’m talking about the high heels she’s wearing. This bears repeating: The. High. Heels. For. Infants.

You can find all about the “Heelarious” on their website, including the six different styles (hot pink, leopard-print, zebra-print, you get the idea). Sure, the heels are “fake”–they’re collapsible–but one question does come to mind: Why? Does it benefit the child or the adult who will laugh at the child’s expense? Do these “heelarious” shoes HAVE to come in the most non-infant colors and patterns imaginable? And why does a bed-ridden infant need such shoes to begin with? Ooops, I guess I had a few more questions.

Personally, I’m a little, oh, I don’t know. Repulsed? Saddened? Nauseated? If I had a baby daughter, this is NOT what I would have her wear, for the sake of a few amused stares from strangers. High heels usually send the “I’m sexy, look at me” kind of message. Is that really the message we want our toddlers to send? Brrrrrrr!!!!!
